Dawn Pickering is mom to 12-year old Ollie, an unstoppable cancer and stem cell transplant survivor who went blind during treatment and is thriving today, and 15-year old Abby, his courageous and selfless stem cell donor. Dawn raises her family with her stoic and determined husband, Mario. Dawn is a passionate childhood cancer and vision loss advocate. She is the President of the Ontario Parents of Visually Impaired Children (OPVIC) Board, represents them as a Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) representative for the Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) and is a member of the CNIB National Parent Voice Committee. She is an active member of the CHEO Indigenous, Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (I-IDEA) Committee, and several Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) focused-committees within the federal government where she is a public servant working in human resources policy. She also sits on many Ottawa-based and national childhood cancer related advisory committees and contributes to research in both vision loss and childhood cancer frequently as a Family Advisor on various studies.
